In 1996, Universal and producer Robert Zemeckis had dusted off the old plans of the 1970s to finally remake King Kong with impressive newcomer and Frightners director Peter Jackson along with his film making team in New Zealand to bring The 8th Wonder Of The World to the big screen with advance special effects technology. With Production ready to shoot in 1997 casting Kate Winslet as Ann Darrow, George Clooney as Jack Driscoll and Robert De Niro as Carl Denham, the film would use miniatures, suitmation, animatronics and CGI at WETA to create the vast amount of special effects along with the script atone to the likes of Indiana Jones or The Mummy. Unfortunately, due to Universal’s cold feet of Sony’s Godzilla and Disney’s Mighty Joe Young being released 1998 along with Kong as well as uncertain fading fate in Peter Jackson due to The Frightners being a box office bomb upon release, the studio pulled the plug and didn’t pick up on a remake until 2005 after Jackson proved his talents as a filmmaker with The Lord Of The Rings. We now present what a possible trailer for the 1996 adaptation would have been like filled with the classic 90s adventure music from Backdraft to Dragonheart. Enjoy.
